Lockout Tagout: Safety Padlocks
Lockout Tagout Padlocks and labels allow you to quickly id equipment, areas and padlocks with important lockout/tagout (LOTO) information. These are self-adhering high-performance labels that can withstand harsh environments.
Keyed locks are the main type of lock used under OSHA's 1910.147. Keyed locks are also the cheapest and safest option when it comes to lockout/tagout. It's important to know that if your lock comes with two keys, the best practice is to dispose of the second key.
Per OSHA, multiple-keyed or keyed-alike locks may not be used for the purpose of lockout/tagout. Any locks used must have only a single key, which must be under the exclusive control of the employee that applies the lock and is performing the service. For lockout or tagout device removal, each LOTO device must be removed from the energy-isolating device by the employee who applied the device [29 CFR 1910.147(e)(3)].
As such, keys and padlocks must be under the exclusive control of the authorized employee to ensure that the safety provided by padlocks when affixed to energy isolating devices is maintained when the authorized employee is performing servicing and maintenance on machines and equipment covered by the 1910.147 standard.
Notification of employees. Affected employees shall be notified by the employer or authorized employee of the application and removal of lockout devices or tagout devices. Notification shall be given before the controls are applied, and after they are removed from the machine or equipment.
Lockout/tagout (LOTO) products lock down equipment to keep it from being powered on down during maintenance and repair work. Safety Lockout Padlocks must meet the five OSHA Requirements. We offer padlock material and shackle options to build padlocks that will align with the specifications needed for your program and applications in order to meet the OSHA standard.

What does Lockout / Tagout Mean?
Lockout / Tagout (short: LOTO) is a procedure of blocking access to different kinds of energy sources so that they can not be turned on when they shouldn't be. This is the case when for example heavy machinery is being serviced and people have to get inside the machine to check its status. Turning on the machine in such a case could lead to heavy injuries or even death. LOTO measurements aim at avoiding such situations by simply making it impossible to re-energize the machines during the maintenance process.
Is it possible to get a Master Key for my Safety Padlocks?
Yes. The Lock features Keyed Alike (KA) safety padlocks as well as Master Keyed (MK) locks and can assist you in creating a new master key or even grand master key system, or get you locks that will fit perfectly into your existing LOTO System.
Why are Lockout / Tagout Padlocks Different Colors?
Different colors and individually inscribable stickers or labels are used to indicate which department or person the respective lock belongs to. If you need to turn a machine back on urgently, finding the right person to talk to should never take longer than necessary.
Why are Safety Lockout Padlocks Often Key-Retaining?
The key-retaining feature is very important on padlocks that are used for safety lockout purposes. It ensures that a key can never be pulled out from a lock unless it is completely closed. This will automatically remind you to never leave a lock open on an important application.
